In the past we have avoided flexible solar panels because they were relatively inefficient and expensive. This has been changing and now we are at a point to stock two models which we think offer good performance and price.
The 12V 20W unit is capable of 1.24A (at the battery charging voltage of 16V) and is therefore an ideal trickle charger with suitable controller (available separately). The panels are mounted on a flexible aluminium plate measuring 730 x 330 with a plate about 2.5mm thick.
The flexibility of the solar cells is limited by the aluminium plate but will easily bend on the long axis to accommodate a yacht deck or RV roof. It is slightly flexible on the short axis. Best of all, these units do not have a heavy rigid frame and are therefore light. This unit weight is only 780grams, a 70% weight saving.
The 12V 100W unit is capable of delivering 5.26A on a bright, sunny day. This unit would make a more substantial battery charger. Similar construction to the 20W unit. Measures 1260mm long x 570mm wide. Panel thickness 2.5mm.
Both units have a fully sealed terminal box with about 1.2m of power cable with PVC outer sheath.
