LED vs. Halogen

LUMINOUS EFFICACY:
LEDs produce more light per watt than halogens

ON/OFF TIME AND CYCLING:
LEDs light up very quickly, reach full brightness almost instantly, and are not subject to extended delays in cold locations. Unlike fluorescent lamps which burn out more quickly when cycled or HID lamps that require a long time before restarting, they are also able to handle frequent on/off cycles with no loss of performance. This makes them ideal for use in applications that are subject to frequent on-off switching such a sensor activated areas or thoroughfares.

DIMMING:
LEDs can be dimmed, very easily.

COOL LIGHT:
LEDs emit no ultraviolet radiation or heat into the illuminated area that can cause damage to sensitive objects or fabrics.

LIFETIME:
LEDs can have a relatively long life. Fluorescent tubes are typically rated at about 10,000 to 15,000 hours, depending partly on the conditions of use, and halogen lamps at 2,000 to 4,000 hours.

SHOCK RESISTANCE:
LEDs, being solid state components, are difficult to damage with external shock, unlike fluorescent and halogen bulbs which are fragile.

GO GREEN:
LEDs do not contain mercury and other rare earth elements.
